About The Photographer

[photo] My name is Pete Naylor and I'm an Australian living in Skagit County, Washington USA. In 2005 I was introduced to SCUBA diving - it has become a part of my life that I'm very passionate about. Diving in the nearby San Juan Islands provides a lot of adventure and challenge for me, but also a lot of relaxation and wonder. Underwater I'm free of my everyday concerns. My photographs are an attempt to capture and share my diving experiences - if you enjoy them then I've succeeded. Please let me know as I love to receive feedback. If you'd like to use any of my photographs for books, presentations or other purposes please contact me. Prints can be purchased through this website - you can help me afford my next camera!
My diving takes a lot of forms: for the joy of diving itself; conducting marine life surveys for an educational foundation; exploration and salvage; cleanup of garbage and reporting of derelict fishing gear; for photography; and to harvest fresh seafood. I have a small boat that I've setup for diving and I'm fortunate to have friends who are excellent divers and boaters - spending time camping, diving, kayaking in the San Juans is as good as it gets for me. I serve as a rescue (more often recovery unfortunately) diver and a swiftwater rescue technician for local authorities - this can be difficult work but I feel that the training and exposure to stressful situations will make me a safer diver in general. It is an opportunity to help people when they really need it, and I find that very rewarding.

My camera is an Olympus C-8080 in an Ikelite housing, with an Ikelite DS-125 strobe. I have a wide-angle adapter lens for it and matching dome port, as well as a close-up wet diopter for the regular flat port. This camera has shortcomings like any other, but I like learning to work around them for a good result.
